We were so thrilled to have Brooke and Randy Fowler from the Married AF Podcast come visit us on our little old podcast recently. It such a cool story how we’ve gotten to know each other - best that you listen to the podcast and find our yourself. Of course, the conversation got around to movies and, more specifically, what was that one horror movie that really made an impression at a young age. Brooke talked about Poltergeist — a classic fun frightfest that everyone remembers. Randy asked a great question - what classic horror character do you see in the woods when it’s dark and you’re a little bit freaked out. He sees Jason Voorhees.
It’s an interesting question because I’m not sure if I see a particular character. If I get freaked out, I just get an overwhelming sense of dread. Of "Holy Hell”, I might be in some real trouble. Luckily, it’s mostly just me being a wimp - but that sense of dread, of really getting “the willies”, as it used to be called, is what I’m going for when I watch a scary flick. And it is a rare thing to find. We’ve become jaded horror fans - no death is too grisly, no monster too freaky - we’ve seen it all many times over. Or have we?
There are new scary, freaky things out there to be discovered. We’ve just got to hope that there are filmmakers out there who’ve come up with those characters, those ideas that will take us down that path to something new and dreadful. I wait with bated breath.
Brooke and Randy have a super cool podcast that everyone should check out - Married AF. They’re fun, smart, a bit raunchy and they talk about everything - not just movies!! Check them out as I do - you’ll enjoy the ride.
