Erik Kristopher Myers is a student of film. He is a self-taught filmmaker with two features under his belt. He’s also a film critic knows his shit. When you listen to our latest Cinemondo Podcast that debuts on Monday, May 13th, you’ll get what I’m saying. It’s one thing to talk about film; it’s another thing to make a living at it, and then go out and make your own films. That’s what he’s done. His first film, ROULETTE (2012) is an auspicious and daring film that goes way past what one would expect for a low-budget feature shot by a first-time filmmaker. It has a lot going for it - the less said, the better about it. You’ll go in thinking one thing, and come out the other end thinking something else. That’s a good film that can do that.
His second feature, BUTTERFLY KISSES (2018) is a completely fresh take on the found footage horror scene that has been kicking around since THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999) burst forth. I’ll do you a favor and then you do us a favor - watch the movie. Once again, you’ll go in thinking something like “here’s another found footage film - go ahead and try and scare me, I dare ya”. Soon into it, you’ll be thinking “okay, this is something different, something MORE, and I like it”. That’s it - that’s all I’m saying. After you watch the film, it’s streaming free on Amazon Prime and on other services, listen to Kathy, Burk and myself talk with Myers about his films and his love of films and filmmaking. He’s a sharp, funny, knowing guest. We liked him so much that we’ll have him on again - no question about it.
So watch and listen. -Mark Az
